UK-headquartered Endemol Shine Group and Korean major CJ E&M are joining forces to develop original formats and series for the Korean and international markets. Revenues from the created IPs will be split equally between the two companies.

Endemol Shine has a wealth of experience developing, producing and distributing formats across the globe, while CJ E&M is spearheading innovation in content creation in South Korea and has developed an expertise in producing, localizing and distributing shows across Asia.

A non-scripted show is currently being developed for CJ E&M’s flagship channel, likely tvN, and Endemol Shine will distribute it internationally. Previous collaborations included MasterChef Korea and I Can See Your Voice international distribution.

We hope that the collaboration will soon include scripted series. So far, only Endemol Italy has dealt with Korean dramas, with the Italian adaptation of tvN’s Ice Adonis being currently written.

It is exciting to see the large indie groups embracing the Korean wave. After FremantleMedia’s Georgia Brown sharing her insight and passion at last year’s Kdrama panel talk, that’s now Endemol Shine’s CEO Sophie Turner Laing to acknowledge the creativity coming from South Korea’s TV industry!

About the author:

Created in April 2014, Daehan Drama aims to promote Korean TV dramas towards the UK audience, as well as facilitate dialogue between the British and Korean creative industries.
