KCCUK Year of Film Professionals: Production Designer, Ryu Seong-hie
After successful 3 cycles dedicated to Screenwriting, Film music and Cinematography, the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) is ending its 2014 Year of Film Professionals with Production Design. And the guest chosen for that them is Ryu Seonghie.
After pottery studies, Ryu Seong-hie made her debut as a production designer on Flower Island in 2001, she went onto work on a number of noir thrillers and with several of today’s most renowned film directors, including Bong Joon-ho and Park Chan-wook. She is the one behind the colour palette of Oldboy and face masks of I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK for instance.
We mentioned Memories of Murder (2003) two weeks ago, which was screened on October 16. There are five other films on which Ryu contributed which are to follow and here are the screening dates:
- Thursday 30 October, 7:00PM: South Korea’s 2011 Oscar submission, The Front Line, directed by Hun Jang;
- Thursday 13 November, 7:00PM: Late Autumn, directed by Kim Tae-yong and starring Tang Wei, who both got married on July 12;
- Thursday 27 November, 7:00PM: Mother, directed by Bong Joon-ho, Channel 4’s favorite Korean feature film;
- Thursday 4 December, 7:00PM: A Bittersweet Life, directed by Kim Jee-woon and starring Hwang Jeong-min and Lee Byung-hun (currently in the middle of a blackmail scandal);
- Thursday 11 December, 7:00PM: The Host, directed by Bong Joon-ho, followed by a Q&A session with Ryu Seong-hie in person!
