1 Comment on Korean drama through the eyes of the director of Winter Sonata

Yun Seokho, the renowned director of Winter Sonata, said to be at the origin of the Korean wave, made London his second home. In only a few months, he has given presentations at two of the most prestigious universities in the City: LSE and SOAS. On 30 November 2013, he joined the guests of the LSESU Korean Economic and Political Forum to provide his insight on how Korean drama may have contributed to a rebirth of South Korea’s image worldwide. Then on 7 March 2014, he spoke to a packed assembly at SOAS about what makes Korean drama so different, enabling its success in Asia and abroad.

Having attended both his interventions, we will be publishing a series of articles dealing with specific themes he tackled:

1)      The role of Korean drama in initiating and spreading Hallyu;

2)      The key differentiator between Korean and Western drama;

3)      The specific elements that make Korean love stories so addictive;

4)      The underlying culture difference that gives another dimension to Korean romance.

If you want to know to know the rest, stick around… to be continued…
