LKDC hosting K-Scripted Formats Forum on June 23rd
After the success of our first panel talk at the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) last year, we are proud to announce, with the support of KOFICE, our next panel talk, dedicated to Korean scripted formats.
Formats are basically the defining narrative elements of a show, be it an entertainment or a fictional series. With the emergence of Korean dramas on the international stage, their storytelling qualities are getting recognized and more and more European companies are showing interest in adapting these storylines to local flavours to make them more accessible to a mainstream audience.
We will be welcoming guests from all over Europe, sharing their experience in adapting the formats of Korean drama series. So far we have confirmed:
- Nilufer Kuyel, Head of Acquisitions and Format Development at Shine Endemol Turkey, who looks for Korean dramas to be adapted for Turkish television;
- Alessia Gambaro, Consultant at Shine Endemol Italy, who works with the team in charge of adapting tvN’s Ice Adonis for a leading Italian commercial channel;
- David Clarke, Head of Drama Acquisitions and Co-Productions at ITV Studios, whose job involves keeping track of the latest Korean dramas for North American adaptations (recently ITV Studios also announced the UK remake of tvN’s Who Are You?).
We are also still hoping to have a Korean producer to join us.
We will also be lucky to watch the result of such adaptations, with screenings of the pilot episodes of the following series:
- Snowdrop (2015), the Ukrainian remake of tvN’s Ice Adonis (2012) for Kanal Ukrainia;
- Kis Gunesi (2016), the Turkish remake by Shine Endemol of KBS’s Resurrection (2005) for Show TV.
To confirm your attendance, please email us at info@daehandrama.com, with your name, and any other guests you might want to bring. In addition, you can also indicate your attendance on our MeetUp and Facebook event pages.
The event will take place from 7.30PM to 10.30PM, and the venue, soon to be confirmed, is expected to be a lecture room at King’s College London, Strand Campus – thanks to a partnership with King’s Hallyu Society.
